Dermal fillers are one of the treatment options that may be considered to improve the appearance of certain lines, restore or enhance definition and create subtle changes to facial proportions.
At Angel Aesthetics my approach is centred around natural-looking results and personalised treatment planning.
Every treatment is planned around your individual anatomy, existing features and what you would like to achieve.
What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are injectable gels used within specific areas of the face, and sometimes other areas of the body.
The Restylane fillers I use are hyaluronic acid (HA) a substance that occurs naturally within the body.
Depending on the product selected and where it is used dermal filler can be used to:
- Restore or enhance definition
- Add subtle volume
- Improve the appearance of certain lines and folds
- Enhance facial proportions
- Support or define particular facial features
- Hydrate and improve the appearance of the skin in selected applications
Different fillers have different physical properties and are designed for different uses.
Product selection is therefore an important part of treatment planning, and therefore a consultation is required to discuss the best filler for your needs.
Treatment areas
Depending on your individual anatomy and treatment goals areas that may be considered include:
Tear troughs
Treatment may be considered for selected patients where hollowing beneath the eyes contributes to the appearance of tiredness. This is a particularly delicate area and is not suitable for everyone.
Cheeks
Filler can be used to enhance or restore definition around the cheekbones where appropriate.
Lips
Treatment may be considered to enhance lip shape, definition or volume, with the aim of maintaining natural looking proportions.
Chin
Filler can sometimes be used to alter or enhance chin projection and facial proportions.
Nose
In carefully selected patients filler may be used to create subtle changes to the appearance of the nose. My practice is limited to selected cases and I do not offer complex nose filler.
Nasolabial lines
These are the folds that run from the sides of the nose towards the corners of the mouth. Treatment may sometimes be appropriate depending on the individual cause and facial anatomy.
Marionette lines
These are lines extending downwards from the corners of the mouth. Treatment may be considered where appropriate although simply filling the line is not always the best approach.
Lip corner area
In selected patients, filler may be used to improve definition around the corners of the mouth and create lift.
Treatments I don't offer
A significant part of responsible aesthetic practice is recognising when a treatment isn't appropriate.
I do not offer:
- Jawline filler
- Complex nose filler
- Temple filler
- Significant facial transformation using large volume filler
- Multiple ml filler packages (3+)
- Non facial filler
If I don't feel that a particular treatment is appropriate for you, I will explain why and where possible discuss alternative options. This may include a referral to a practitioner better suited to your needs.
A bespoke approach to product selection
Different products have different characteristics, including their consistency, elasticity, cohesivity and behaviour within the tissues.
The product selected will depend on factors such as:
- The area being treated
- Your individual anatomy
- The intended purpose of treatment
- The amount of support or volume required
- Previous filler treatment
- Your treatment history and preferences
I currently use established hyaluronic acid dermal filler products from reputable aesthetic pharmacies, such as MedFx. The specific product recommended for your treatment will be discussed with you during your consultation.
Filler dissolving
Most filler will gradually dissolve naturally within the body over time, depending on the type of filler used.
If required, dermal fillers can be dissolved using Hyaluronidase (Hyalase), a prescription medicine.
There are risks associated with this procedure (including infection and allergic reaction) and therefore I only offer elective filler dissolving for product that I have personally placed.
In an emergency, such as suspected vascular occlusion, I can also provide emergency assessment and treatment for filler placed elsewhere where you are unable to contact or access your original practitioner.
A suspected vascular occlusion is a medical emergency requiring prompt assessment. Depending on the circumstances, additional specialist advice or treatment may be required, including input from the Aesthetics Complications Expert (ACE) Group or referral to an emergency department.
If you have had filler elsewhere and are concerned about a possible complication, please seek urgent advice with your injector rather than waiting for a routine appointment.
It is important to note that although dermal filler does not require a prescription, treatment of complications such as infection or vascular occlusion requires a prescriber. As a medical doctor I am able to administer Hyalase and prescribe antibiotics and steroids according to protocol.
Your safety comes first
Dermal filler treatment is not risk free. Possible complications include bruising, swelling, tenderness, infection, asymmetry, lumps or nodules and inflammatory reactions. More serious complications can occur, including vascular occlusion, which can result in tissue damage and, in rare circumstances, visual complications.
These risks will be discussed with you as part of your consultation and informed consent process and is another reason that I do not offer same day consultation and treatment.
I maintain appropriate clinical insurance, undertake ongoing professional development and am a member of the Aesthetics Complications Expert (ACE) Group.

What happens before treatment?
All new clients have a face-to-face consultation before any treatment.
Your consultation gives us time to discuss your concerns, expectations, medical history and previous aesthetic treatment, and to decide whether dermal filler is appropriate.
Treatment is not carried out during the initial consultation. A cooling-off period allows you time to consider your options before deciding whether to proceed.
There is never any obligation to have treatment.
What happens after treatment?
Your treatment will be explained to you beforehand including relevant aftercare advice.
A follow-up review is offered approximately 1–2 weeks after treatment, where appropriate, to assess the result and discuss any concerns.
Any further treatment or adjustment will only be recommended where clinically appropriate.
How much does dermal filler cost?
Because every treatment is individually planned I will provide a personalised quotation at your consultation.
I don't offer large-volume or multiple ml (3+) filler packages for significant facial changes.
The amount of filler used will be based on what is appropriate for your treatment plan rather than encouraging you to purchase a particular number of syringes.
